Ciné-Asie is a non-profit film and media organization based in Montréal, Québec, Canada. It was founded in 1996 by distinguished visual media artist Mi-Jeong Lee. Since then, the company has been working with the Asian-Canadian artistic community in order to facilitate the exchange of artistic ideas between Canada and Asia through the mediums of film and video. Its aim is to foster and encourage cross-cultural dialogue between Canada and Asia, and to support the creation of independent works by Canadian filmmakers. All this is done in the hopes that the company’s activities will help strengthen and promote Asian and Canadian cultural heritage within the multi-cultural landscape of international cinema.
In the past, Ciné-Asie has successfully hosted and co-sponsored a number of film and video events in Montréal, including festivals, screenings, publications and conferences. It has also provided technical and organizational support to a number of individual artists, allowing them the opportunity to realize their projects.
Ciné-Asie’s staff is comprised of a culturally diverse group of volunteers and employees with backgrounds in film, journalism, music and the media arts industries both in Montréal and abroad.
